How we verify
Gazawood is a curated investigative archive. Trust comes from sources, location proof, and editorial judgment. When evidence is incomplete, we open a case instead of forcing a final label.
Vocabulary
- Unreviewed
- In the archive without a completed editorial evidence review.
- Documented
- Supported by sources, location proof, or other evidence Gazawood has reviewed.
- Open case
- Evidence is incomplete. We state a specific open question and may accept tip-line submissions.
- Miscaptioned
- Real footage with false or wrong attribution (date, place, caption, or context).
- Staged
- Produced or staged for effect — a specific claim with a specific evidentiary bar.
- Inconclusive
- We investigated and still cannot close the claim with confidence.
Open cases
- We change a label when there is checkable evidence— links, earlier uploads, locations, dates — not opinion alone.
- Reader submissions go to editors. Useful tips may appear as editor-written lines in the public case log; we do not publish raw tip text.
- Disputed footage is often real video with the wrong caption, date, or place — we treat that separately from staged material.
- A submitted URL alone is not proof. Prefer independent archival snapshots with verifiable capture dates. Upload date is not the same as capture date.
- We keep a limited number of open cases so each one can be reviewed, and we update the case log as the investigation continues.

For closed cases or material that does not fit the tip form, contact us through the channels listed on the About page. Do not send phone numbers, private addresses, or threats.
